High-quality software assets need to be viewed in the same way as personnel assets that accrue over time. By leveraging domain-specific knowledge to refactor important software into strategic software assets, the value of the software actually increases, rather than decreases. Thus a long-term investment strategy is required to maximize return on investment in strategic software assets.
